“By understanding birth as ceremony, and ceremonies as forms of Indigenous knowledge systems that reverberate across the vast networks of life, Indigenous people challenge the accepted Western understanding of the order of the universe and the natural world.””
Course Description
This workshop is a three day exploration into the sacred, centering spirituality as a framework for understanding the physiological processes of pregnancy, birth and post-partum. We will be delving into the history of ceremony, its ancestral origins and its modern significance specifically as it relates to ceremonial birth as ecological restoration. Together, We will be co-creating ritual and exploring the application of ritual and prayer as relevant and vital tools for the birthing process.
We will be exploring ancestral technologies and methodologies for healing including traditional body work, plant medicine, song and movement.
The curriculum for this workshop was designed to be polemic to the classic clinical pedagogy of modern doula and midwifery trainings. We will be approaching pregnancy and birth as inherently ceremonial experiences and discussing physiological processes as a physical manifestation of the spiritual.
This workshop is designed for birth workers who already have a minimum of foundational knowledge of birth. Have you attended a doula training? Are you a student midwife? Do you hope to explore and apply your spirituality to your work? This workshop is for you! We will be exploring the physiology of birth through a spiritual lens, and it's important that folks who apply already have a little bit of birth knowledge and/or experience.
